2.9% + $0.30 for a standard US online card payment. On a $100 sale that's $3.20 in fees and $96.80 in your pocket. There are no monthly or setup fees on the standard plan โ you only pay per transaction.
Stripe adds a 1.5% cross-border surcharge when the card was issued outside the US, making it 4.4% + $0.30. If currency conversion is also needed, add another 1% โ up to 5.4% + $0.30 total. International sales cost nearly double the domestic rate.
Much cheaper for larger amounts: 0.8% capped at $5. A $1,000 card payment costs $29.30 in fees; via ACH it's just $5. For B2B invoices and large transfers, ACH is the clear winner.
No โ this is the painful one. Stripe charges no extra fee to issue a refund, but the original processing fee is not returned. Refunding a $100 sale costs you the $3.20 fee permanently.
